I haven't had time yet to surf the boards and see how the Joe Fans are spinning this, but there was one, and only one, reason why we lost this game.
Free Holland Gurode Davis Barron
Four stiffs and a backup.
We designed the gameplan expecting a trainwreck in protection. Collinsworth even pointed it out. Romo was anticipating pressure that wasn't there yet all game long. He was a scared little Mexican.
Just an embarrassing display of how awful we are up front.
The defense was dominant. Against a bad offense, but hey. Special teams was good. The backs were running well. The receivers were playing well. We out played them from start to finish. We had everything we needed to put away an inferior team on the road in the opener but our five sacks of shat at the line of scrimmage f'd us.
Like they f'd us in Minnesota.
This doesn't get fixed this year. Which is why most fans won't admit to it. They'll come up with some asinine theory where the coordinator failed or the o-line coach needs to go. Can't admit the players just aren't good enough. That's a bigger fix.
It wasn't a preseason thing. It was a continuation of last year and nothing's changed once the games started counting.
We need a complete and total revamping of the offensive line. If you think there is a player here or there already on the roster that factors in, you are wrong. Face reality. I can't imagine how anyone can watch us play and not see the ginormous handicap we got going on there. To the tune where the coordinator and QB go into the game expecting no protection. Against a downtrodden team. That's embarrassing on so many levels.
You don't win titles with no line. We won't this year because of it. Guaranteed. Don't hate the messenger. Blame your GM. Blame Parcells if you'd like too. His whiffs helped lead to this. But at least that guy wouldn't have sat on his hands the last several years and watched this situation reach crisis mode.
I like where we are along the offensive line.
That's the words of the guy making the final decisions on personnel for your football team. You simply can not defend that statement. It shows the glaring ignorance that we've dealt with since 1994. One that we've had to battle to overcome ever since. The reason we don't win. The reason we've experienced the worst era of Cowboys football since their inception.
That's the real state of the team. Ready to win everywhere else but there. A team talented enough to probably overcome not having a quality head coach but they can not overcome losing the battle at the line of scrimmage with regularity.
I'm not overreacting to one game. This isn't about one game. This is the same reason why our season ended last year. Nothing's changed. Same guys. Same play. We'll get the same result too.
Save this. Then forget all about it in the winter.
