LOL at anyone using "experience" as a requisite for being President anymore after the community organizer won two terms.

Which is exactly what democraps are doing now, saying Trump doesn't have the "experience" to be CIC

That was a huge argument made against Obama. The whole situation can be boiled down to neither side giving two shits when it's their candidate but caring immensely when it isn't.

Do normal everyday democrats/liberals understand that Hollywood is not a good judge of policy? Do they realize that George Clooney and Ellen will be just fine either way?

I would take these people serious if they all got together and went into Chicago or Baltimore and rebuilt neighborhoods and sponsored 10 families each financially with their own money to get them on their feet. All they do is sit in their mansions and tell these people that all they have to do is elect democrats and it'll be ok.

I wonder how many people vote based on what their favorite musician or actor/actress says?

I live in Los Angeles and you would be sickened and shocked by how many sheeple vote according to what their favorite reality tv star says

Seeing as the countries violent crime rate has been steadily decreasing for the last 25 years, I would say it is definitely safer and less violent. But you and dbair and burm don't deal in facts so...

Yea Chicago is a great example of decreasing violent crime.

And the world overall is certainly safer. ISIS is getting rid of all the bad people and saving taxpayers dollars world wide by eliminating any justice system to get rid of these bad people.

You libtards talking about "facts" is hilarious, as if you could recognize one,

This is so hilarious. I know it's unintentional though. Have you read Trump's twitter?

How can one not? The left wing media posts just about everything he says.

Not sure how that's relevant though with what I said about Cuban

It wasn't much of an argument. Mainstream media completely ignored it. Hell he got lobbed soft ball after soft ball in his initial primary and general election. Nobody critiqued anything with him and if someone tried, they were immediately labeled "racist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I barely watched any of it because I can't stand these conventions, but what little I did see flipping around last night, the major network people were practically in tears they were so happy that everything was so beautiful and perfect.

Oh, now you're cherry-picking on a global level. Of course, you're a neo-con, thinking all the violence in the world is somehow America's problem.

Care to explain to me how the violent crime rate dropping steadily since 1990 is not a fact?

So your proclamation referred to everything except the cherries?

Its our problem when are citizens are included in the carnage worldwide. Its our problem when its in San Bernardino, and Ft. Hood, and Orlando.

Its our problem when our cops get killed in Dallas and Baton Rouge.

A worldwide problem is OUR PROBLEM when its here as well.

No, cherry-picking is looking at one particular fact out of an entire set of facts and acting like that one specific fact negates the general one.

The point is, when you look at the violent crime rate in 1990 and the violent crime rate now, it's been decreasing the entire time. You may say, well this one event or set of events occurred, but those events are included in the violent crime rate, and as a whole, it's decreasing. We haven't been safer as a society at any time since 1990.

Has violent crime been eradicated? No. And social media and main stream media will focus on the (fewer) horrors and try to make you feel like it's more dangerous. But the fact of the matter is it's safer, no matter what your "feelings" tell you.

http://www.statista.com/statistics/191219/reported-violent-crime-rate-in-the-usa-since-1990/

In 1990, the violent crime rate was 729.6 crimes per 100,000 people. It spiked in 1991, and since then, it's steadily decreased. In 2014 it's 365.5 crimes per 100,000 people. That's almost exactly half of what it was 25 years ago. You may think that's still too many, and that's fine. But relative to 1990, it's safer.

I think you guys are having the wrong argument.

Violent crime is down, but the new dangers we face make us less safe than we've ever been in our lifetimes, IMO.

I don't think you can take the cautions you did 15 years ago and still feel reasonably safe. What I mean by that is, if you don't want to be mugged or killed, you pretty much know what parts of your community to stay away from.

Now on the other hand, we have people among us who are willing to go to great lengths to take out mass numbers of people in ambush attacks. To me, this is quite different than violent crime that you would normally read about in the paper and say "yeah, bad neighborhood, or wrong place at wrong time."

You have to keep this threat in perspective. I don't know if I'm a pussy, but I think twice now about where I take my family on vacation, or where and when we do things where I know they'll be large numbers of people. I've never worried about going to concerts or shopping malls at Xmas time. Now I do.

Great post.

I dont care if individual violent crimes like assault or abuse or down. That stuff is irrelevant to a "safe" world. The towel head goat humpers you refer to are a huge factor to be considered and its not just media fabricated headlines.

Pep is arguing from a cherry picked stat that isnt all that relevant when you talk about the world being safe or not.

This is very true. My wife and I have little desire to go some place like the Mall of America because it's the type of place that is ripe for an attack

This is a perfect example of the emotional ploy perpetrated on the American people by the media and social media. Statistically speaking it is less likely for you to be a victim of a violent crime than it was in 1990, by a measure of half. We are literally safer than we've been in a quarter century. In fact, the violent crime rate is about the same as it was in 1970. That's the last time the violent crime rate was this low. That's just how it is.

Problem is violent crimes are so magnified now it seems worse than it is... your perspective is skewed. Not that there's anything wrong with that, perspectives are skewed all the time. But these crimes sell in the media, society craves the outrage created by them, and the government grows and curtails more of our rights because of the fear.

If you weren't more fearful in 1991 when violent crime rates were twice as high, then your fear is not grounded in reality.

Here's another link showing violent crime rates back to 1960...

Violent crime way down since 1991, while firearm ownership tripled. Possible correlation?

There is no emotional media ploy.

Do you feel safer today letting your kids go out in the neighborhood on their own?

Do you feel safer stopping at a rest area at night?

Do you feel safer taking a trip to Israel or the Middle East?

Probably several reasons, including police agencies throughout the country adopting Guiliani's approach which was zero tolerance. Couple that with stiff sentences (that's right, those minimum mandatory sentences had a positive effect on crime) and getting tough on crime and it had a positive impact. It's only a surprise to you and others why crime is on the uptick. The undermining of law enforcement and law and order in general the last 8 years will only lead to a continued increase in crime, especially violent crime.
