Also... I love how they keep arbitrarily redefining who is "rich." It used to be if 3 million was your income, that got lowered to two, and now Joe says it's 500K!

Almost like somebody told them that even if they seized all income from millionaires it still wouldn't make a dent in the budget deficit! So they're going after all the half-millionaires now too!

Actually they've been talking about anyone making over $400,000. That sounds like a lot of money and it is but if you're married and your spouse is also a professional, especially in NY, Boston or California, you'll hit the $400,000 mark and that's really upper middle class. Married people usually file their taxes jointly so that $400,000 isn't out of reach.

In addition, say you've invested your money wisely and have a couple of rental properties to go with your income, you'll hit that $400,000 if/when you file jointly. Yimmy can probably confirm.

What's insane is that when I was a kid and a politician said he was going to raise your taxes, that was a death blow (see Mondale, Walter). Now it's a talking point to attract voters. My, how times have changed.

Yep they keep lowering the bar in order to widen the theft possibilities. Generationally selling "punish success" is starting to have the desired effect.

They know that negative emotions are a far better driver than dispassionate logic.

^^ true story^^

Its scary as fuck, people really seem to think money grows on trees (and it kind of does since the Fed is printing money hand over fist but I believe a day of reckoning is coming) and have zero understanding of what it takes to run a business, the obstacles, unnecessary tedium, red tape and sneaky taxes that businesses have to endure & pay. On top of that, many demonize their employer or corporation as some kind of crook.

Virtually no one understands that corporations pay double taxes and spread the lie the "rich" must pay their "fair share" while bemoaning the taxes they see coming out of every check they receive and would avoid if they could.

The hypocrisy coupled with ignorance is astounding

It's amazing how much we vilify business and business owners. People think that this bullshit will be confined to "big" business but it's always the little guy that gets the shaft. Look no further than the lockdowns. Walmart, Home Depot and other just keep taking in cash while the small business owner is restricted to the point of destruction and bankruptcy. I get angry just thinking about it.

I wonder how many people reading this here (or anywhere for that matter) understand that in Dallas, Texas if you run a business and go buy chairs, computers, tables, desks, etc, etc for your business (and pay tax on them at purchase), the city will come place a value on these assets and charge your property tax annually on the items you've already bought and paid for. You have to rent your own fucking stuff you've already paid for from the damn government, its infuriating but we all just take it.

Secondly, in Texas we have a Franchise tax which kicks in once you reach a certain profit level, so basically, if you become a successful business, presumably employ others and have the audacity to make enough profit, then here comes more taxes. These dont effect most people so they dont get any blowback and its too time consuming and expensive for those that have to pay this tax to try and oppose which would likely fail and cost a fortune in the process.

I realize there have to be taxes but there should be a level of common sense and fairness associated with the taxes we pay.

The two items mentioned about just feel like a sneaky shake down

Hell, you kidding? They're even taxing the rain now. With a gruesome euphemism called "drainage fees" they charge you an amount per square foot of "non-permeable improvements" you have on your property. This is any and all asphalt or concrete you have such as driveways and parking lots.

To get it past the voters they touted all these street and sewer improvements and also said it would encourage businesses to use "more ecologically sound" alternatives to asphalt and concrete such as permeable crushed asphalt and concrete -which would have the added benefit of keeping demolished asphalt and concrete out of landfills!

But in reality they sneaky-like, changed planning and zoning requirements to DISALLOW use of non-permeables! That's right, you can't have a driveway or parking lot made out of crushed concrete or crushed asphalt! AND you now are required to have X amount of square feet of driveway and parking space as a ratio to your floor space square footage! I shit you not.

AND... the money coming in for the "drainage fee?" Turns out its not earmarked at all for the promised improvements, it just goes in to the general fund!

They're taxing the fucking rain. They also want to tax the air too, they're working on it.

Somewhere somehow, the #1 priority of government became increasing revenue instead of governance.

This stuff gets uglier by the minute......Biden needs to answer some of these questions if he's going to hold the highest office in the land. But, like I've been saying, no Dem is really voting for Joe Biden or for policies. They're voting against the Orange Man.

Kendrick is an attorney and is a member of the Georgia House. She is the legislator who introduced a bill as a counter to an abortion bill that she opposed ( that bill was later declared unconstitutional) but it banned vasectomies and required men to get permission from their significant other before getting a prescription for viagra. It got a lot of attention at the time.

How are all these old dudes supposed to keep cheating their wives if they have to get permission from their wives for their viagra prescriptions??
