Alright, we've had a lifetime to think about it before today. Here's what I believe the Cowboys' wishlist is for pick No. 9 heading into the first round of the NFL Draft.

1. Nick Fairley
2. Tyron Smith
3. Trade Down

Talk in recent days is that Fairley could be dropping based on a number of things - that he was a one-year wonder at Auburn, that his work ethic may be an issue and he's also been smacked with the always nebulous "character concerns" label. However, he appears to have the potential to truly disrupt offenses in a way the Cowboys haven't gotten from their ends since switching to the 3-4 defense.

As for Smith, there's a good chance the Cowboys see him as the best offensive tackle in the draft. They haven't picked an O-lineman in the first round in 30 years, but there is reason to believe that could change. The Cowboys haven't picked this early since 2003, so the chance to select an elite player would certainly be enticing.

However, it's been pointed out that this would be only the second time in 10 years that the first lineman taken wasn't gone in the first eight picks, so there's a better-than-zero chance Smith will be gone before the Cowboys pick. Beyond him, there seems to be a range of players the Cowboys could use, and a trade down would allow them to stockpile multiple picks, which is also appealing.

We'll see how it shakes out tonight, but this is my gut feeling about what the Cowboys would like to see happen.

As of right now, my personal game plan for our pick 9 would be to take the player with the best potential to be a star.

Even if we had to surrender a 3rd to move up for Peterson. Get him. I'd then roll the dice and hope in the 2nd round I can go to my immediate need which is obviously OT.

But say Peterson is unattainable and would require more than a 3rd to move up... I would sit and take the best pass rusher available to me at 9, Fairly or Quinn. Then in the 2nd, either sit and take the best available OT or trade up and grab one that is sliding in the first round.

If neither pass rusher is available at 9.. I would take the best OT, Smith or Costanzo. Then go BPA the rest of the way. Using free agency to fill the holes I didn't get to in the draft.

In NO WAY would I take Cameron Jordan, JJ Watt, Amukamura, or even Aldon Smith at 9. Or even after trading down. If I trade down I take the best available OT.

And that would be my game plan if I were in charge.

My gameplan would be to sit on my hands and take Tyron Smith at 9.

If freaky shit happens in the top 8, or some team offers a chance to move to 11-14, and pick up a 3rd or 4th, consider it. But only do it if you believe Tyron will still be there.

Don't trade below 15 unless you can net a 2nd. I'd take a Costanzo or Carimi with a 2nd and be happy.

Had Fairley not leaned up after the season I wouldn't see why he couldn't play NT. The guy's a beast. Tremendous strength. I would think a year or two in an NFL weight room and he'd be one of the most dominant NTs in football.

But he went the other way, for whatever reason. Now he can dominate at end instead.
