Anybody comfortable with trading Anthony Spencer and going into the season with Victor Butler as the starter and Brandon Williams the top backup?

Didn't think so.

Spencer's playing for his next contract. I'd bet money this year will be his best yet. We can't trade him.

it's not so much about how good he is. it's more about what you could get in return. Skill is relative. i'm not saying he'll have a bad year, but if someone offers you Eric Weddle for Spencer and a number two, you would probably consider it.

No, he's not spamming. He linked our board to his blog.

I'm fine with his blog being posted in order to view the articles.

It's not going to hurt us to click an extra time to read the articles. This relationship will help this site just as much.

I don't mind it either. Another Cowboys site to visit is a good thing.

Weaken our pass rush to strengthen our secondary?

No thank you. We need more OLBs not less.

It's really a little sad when you can only amass 5 sacks when playing in the same front 7 as Ware and ratliff. Are you telling me that a player like Victor Butler can't record 5 sacks in the same situation. I'm not trying to say Anthony Spencer is a scrub. I don't think the Boys would miss him terribly, and other teams could really use him. EXAMPLE: What would you say if the Cardinals offered a Kheri Rohdes for Spencer and a 2nd or third. They need a pass rushing 3-4 linebacker. If the right situation presented itself, I'd trade anyone on the roster outside of Ware of course

Spencer has been invisible on the pass rush for the majority of his career. No question. But he also has flashed big potential. And he's a very good run defender.

We have no other option at the position. Butler has never been more than a situational pass rusher. Brandon Williams hasn't done a damn thing in the NFL.

You just have to hope Spencer, in a contract year, thrives under Rob Ryan. You can't go into the season with a 3-4 defense and have Ware and a group of schlubs at OLB.

You shouldnt have to say anything else

You missed the part that there's another aspect to OLB play. Run defense. Not only is Spencer our best potential pass rusher opposite Ware, he's clearly the only run defender we have there.

It's an awful idea to trade him now. Especially for a secondary player. It shows a real lack of understanding of the game.
