As a believer in capitalism and liberty, I understand Walmart's desire to squeeze as much money out of the Christmas shopping season as possible. But if we don't want to invite government control, we have to be able to police ourselves, and Walmart just isn't doing that. Opening on Thanksgiving night is not only a cruel thing to do to your employees, it brings out a tired crowd -- many of whom have probably had too much to drink -- and that only increases the likelihood of this:

At least three people got into a fight in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Rialto, Calif., because shoppers were cutting in line, Sgt. Nicholas Borchard told NBC Southern California. Two were taken into custody after the fight at around 7 p.m. local time (10 p.m. ET), he added. A police officer suffered a minor unknown injury.

A man in Claypool Hill, West Virginia, was slashed to the bone with a knife after threatening another man with a gun in an argument over a Wal-Mart parking spot, Tazewell County Sheriff Brian Hieatt told NBC station WVVA. Both faced charges after the incident that happened at 6:30 p.m. the station reported. …

Another shopper was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer after getting into an argument with a New Jersey Wal-Mart store manager about a television set, police told NBC New York. Officers arrived at the scene at 6:39 p.m. and once they had pacified the customer they also charged the shopper with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, Garfield police told the station.

If there was a modern day Holocaust at WalMart on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, I think I'd be okay with it.

My son works at Walmart(I'm very proud) here in Chandler.

His store's stats from last night:
1 woman trampled
2 fights
1 stabbing
at least 3 kids who couldn't find their parents

Black Friday should be enough. These businesses should be closed on Thanksgiving. Even poor people deserve a holiday.

This is America and if a company wants to be open on a holiday then they can be because soldiers died for their rights to do so. Love it or leave it fellas.

I guess Walmart is holding a gun to everyone's head forcing them to shop there on Thanksgiving. Maybe the problem is the customer. Na...that can't be it. It must be the evil company. They force stupid people to attack each other over shiny trinkets.

The employees shouldn't whine about it either. They are the ones that chose to work there and signed an employee contract. Oh yea, walmart must have put a gun to their heads also.

Like Mid said, we have troops dying right now in Afghanistan and Iraq so you and I can shop on Thanksgiving. Let's be a little more appreciative.

I'm talking more about the savages fighting over plastic pieces of shit and spots on line.
Imagine how bad it'll be when it's necessity.

It's all one big stupid free for all. Everyone just loses their minds. I didn't buy one thing today because I wasn't getting out in that shit.

It is going to become a necessity to fight for plastic pieces of shit and spots in line?

Re-read it and think about the context.

I re-read it. My comment remains the same based upon what you said.

Why not take the 2 minutes and type out whatever it is you were trying to say so we don't have to guess what you were trying to imply.

Because it's pretty clear. Imagine how people would re-act to limited necessity. Maybe you shouldn't be so hot to argue everything I say.

:lol

And what are you implying is going to cause us to have to fight for necessity?

I imagine, if it ever happens, it'd be just like it has been any other time in human history. I'm not sure people's current behavior in Wal-Mart today is any sort of indicator of how people would react to an event in the future.

You're really pretty lousy at this.

When people treat each other like shit over senseless shit like TV's, imagine how horrible they'll be when disaster strikes and they have to get at necessities (go see Katrina aftermath for proof).
