Cowboys could target Texas CB Aaron Williams or Illinios RB Mikel Leshoure at top of the second round
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wouldn’t give up any names but he said the team has plenty of positions it could fill with their second and third round picks on Friday.
The Cowboys have obvious needs at defensive end, safety, linebacker and cornerback. But Jones continues to beat the drum for a running back.
If the Cowboys draft a running back, Marion Barber is good as gone like Marc Colombo.
“We certainly have needs between defensive line, linebacker and at corner and safety so they are there,” Jones said. “ Again I wouldn’t dismiss if we see an opportunity at running back, but we have wanted our third running back to be a special teams player and we haven’t had that. That is a goal. We’ve got a legitimate way to put the snaps on a running back at any of these second to the fifth round. We are not quite the perfect fit there (running back) because we don’t have the special teams player. A lot of that also depends on some of the decisions we make with the veterans. But it is enough that we spent a lot of time talking about running backs.”
Two players to keep an eye on at the top of the second round when the Cowboys pick at No. 40 are Texas cornerback Aaron Williams and Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure.
