Houston's decision to take Williams with the first pick in the 2006 draft over more heralded players such as Reggie Bush and Vince Young looks better by the game. Williams ranks second in the league with four sacks, double the Cowboys' total through two games. The Texans will also drop Williams into pass coverage. He has broken up two passes this season and has five breakups in his last 18 games.
Free opened his first season as the starting left tackle with strong performances against high-quality pass rushers Andre Carter and Julius Peppers. They combined for no sacks and only one tackle. They did not face Free on every snap, and he sometimes had blocking help from tight end Jason Witten. That said, Free has been the most consistent performer on an inconsistent offensive line.
