Former Cowboy Terrell Owens spoke with Michael Irvin (another ex-Cowboys) recently on NFL Network to talk about the struggles Owens and his new team, the Cincinnati Bengals are having. Cincy is 2-3, and has lost games to Cleveland and Tampa Bay in the past two weeks.
Owens has put up big numbers so far: 31 receptions for 476 yards and 2 touchdowns. He leads or is tied for the team lead in all three categories.
On the Bengals current coaching staff and administration: Some people here really think that I don't know what I'm doing, but I have to do it their way... I understand that this is a totally different system, but at the end of the day it's still football. And so I try to address some issues or input some things that I've been taught and what has made me successful...
On how well his input is being received by coaches and administration when he gives it: They hear it, but it's one of those things where they're listening but they're not hearing me. It's one of those types of deals. I just want to win, that's all I want to do. I just want to give that input to help us win.
On why he doesn't shout and speak up about the changes he feels should be made: That's what people want me to do, shout to the top of my lungs. Then they will be ready to kick me up out of here. (Irvin asks if he thinks they would kick him out for speaking up because he wants to 'help make it better') That's what I've been doing all of my career, wanting to get better and wanting to win.
On if he thinks it's not about the input that he has, but the way he delivers it that has resulted in so much controversy and uproar throughout his career: Well I don't have but one way to deliver it, and that's how it comes out of my mouth. It may be a little abrasive when I say it, but it's coming from a good place and I think that's what's wrong. When I say stuff, people think it's coming from a bad place.
