Taylor: Jerry Jones is in denial if he thinks Cowboys are set at CB

A couple of months ago, Jerry Jones stood before us and sadly spoke of being in denial about Wade Phillips’ inability to rescue the Cowboys from their tailspin at the start of the season.
Let’s hope the owner isn’t living in denial again.
But that’s what comes to mind when you read Jerry’s quotes essentially saying the Cowboys’ cornerbacks were compromised by the defensive scheme, and the club doesn't need to draft one.
Say what?
The Cowboys’ top three cornerbacks allowed 18 touchdown passes, and the secondary allowed a passer rating of 92.7.
Quarterbacks completed 53 of 77 passes for 530 yards with seven touchdowns and an interception — a passer rating of 113.0 — against Orlando Scandrick. They were 64-of-98 for 914 yards with five touchdowns and a 91.1 passer rating against Terence Newman.
Mike Jenkins allowed 60 of 89 passes directed toward him to be completed for 994 yards with six touchdowns and a 122.6 passer rating.
No cornerback allowed more passing yards than Jenkins. Newman ranked sixth in the NFL in yards allowed.
Jenkins allowed 9.3 yards per attempt and Newman 11.1 yards per attempt in a league in which a quarterback averaging more than 8.0 per attempt is deified.
This secondary needs help.
It doesn’t have to come in the first round, but Jerry is living in denial again if he thinks the secondary’s performance was an aberration.
That’s the kind of flawed thinking that contributed to Dallas’ 6-10 season.
