SportsDayDFW.com columnist Jean-Jacques Taylor chatted with fans on Monday and answered questions about the Dallas Cowboys. Here are some highlights:
Will Jason Garrett have more say in personnel than Wade Phillips had?
One of the big misconceptions about Jerry is that he runs roughshod over his coach. That's not true. He gives his coach a lot of input, but the coach has to be man enough to tell the owner what he wants. If the coach lets Jerry run over him, then he will. It's that simple.
Did Ray Sherman get cut loose because he interviewed for Garrett's job? WR coach was the least of Dallas problems.
I don't think so. It's a little surprising that a guy is good enough to interview for the Head Coaching position, but not good enough to coach WR for the same team. I'd place more blame on Jerry because it makes him and the organization look bad. Jerry should've known if Jason didn't want to keep Sherman. It seems to me that Jason and Sherman probably had some issues relating to 2008 when T.O., Crayton and Roy complained about the offense and Romo, so he went in another direction once he had the opportunity to do so
Who do you think Garrett will choose at defensive coordinator and will it be his call or Jerry's?
It'll be Jason's call. It looks, based on the candidates he's spoken with, that he's trying to get someone off Dom Capers' tree to run the defense because he wants an aggressive 3-4 defense.
