Q: Now that you have had a chance to be around Jason Garrett , what former or current NFL coach does he remind you of?
Bruce Mosher, Corry, Pa.
TAYLOR: I’d say Nick Saban , though he’s not nearly as acerbic as the former Miami Dolphins coach. Garrett is, however, every bit the control freak. In that way, he’s probably like Bill Parcells.
Understand, every NFL coach is a control freak in some ways, but Garrett tries to control the message more than most. It’s why he doesn’t let his assistants talk, though the coordinators can speak once a week. It’s why he has stopped the team’s website from using some information and why the club no longer passes out daily clippings with all the newspaper and Internet stories about the Cowboys.
He’s all about details, which is what the best coaches focus on. The more I see him, the more I think he’ll eventually get Dallas headed in the right direction. There seems to be a method and a plan to everything he does.

Q: Martellus Bennett has publicly stated he wants open competition at the quarterback position. Do you believe other players on the team share his sentiment and perhaps question Tony Romo’s ability to lead the team to title contention?
Dwayne Brown, Anniston, Ala.
TAYLOR: You’re asking two different questions. There’s a difference between having to compete for your job and players questioning Romo’s ability to lead.
Jason Garrett said everyone has to fight for a starting job, and Bennett wanted to make sure that included Romo. On a 6-10 team, there should be no free passes. Romo should win the starting job because he’s the best quarterback, but he should have to play well to get it.

Q: Does DeMarco Murray replace Marion Barber as the team’s third-down power back? If he stays healthy, does he eventually replace Felix Jones as the starting back?
Pablo Ramirez, Dallas
TAYLOR: Barber isn’t going to be here next season. I’m not buying this short-yardage back, third-down back, starting back garbage. Run the ball, hit the hole and get the yard. I think Murray starts.
