Some highlights of his most recent newsletter:
George Morel from NY writes, “ It's hard to believe there's not one player in that locker room with the leadership fire of a Michael Irvin or a Troy Aikman that can clean up all these lazy attitudes. I can tell you Irvin or Aikman would have been tearing them up. Your thoughts?”
TAYLOR: Maybe you missed the video of Jason Witten getting in fullback Chris Gronkowski's face. That said, some people are natural-born leaders; some are not. I've covered the Cowboys since 1995, and there has never been another Irvin in the locker room. That's like 10 years from now someone saying I can't believe the Ravens don't have a leader like Ray Lewis cussing out these sorry players. Those guys are special. Their personalities can't be duplicated or replicated. Besides, why do I need someone to fire me up? How come I just can't do my job?
Aaron Adams writes, “Jason Garrett looked good at his new post. If his standards were so high, why couldn't he have conveyed some of his ideas before we ended up 1-7?”
TAYLOR: I asked Stephen Jones that very question last night on the way out of the stadium. His answer: As a member of Wade's staff, he did the types of things Wade wanted him to do. Now that it's his team, he can do whatever he wants to do. Jason has always been a guy who focused on attention to detail, and Wade has never been that way.
Peyton Rawls from Jackson, Miss. asks, “ I'd like to see Mike Zimmer here next year as head coach, but if not, as a coordinator. What are the percentage chances that he will be the head coach of the Cowboys next year or the defensive coordinator?”
TAYLOR: If the Cowboys play well and Garrett keeps the job, then I would assume Paul Pasqualoni will be the coordinator next season. If he doesn't get the job, I could see Garrett trying to convince Packers assistant Dom Capers to be his assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. Capers almost joined the staff as a consultant a couple of years ago, but defensive coordinator Brian Stewart asked Wade Phillips not to add Capers to the staff.
