The Dallas Morning News columnist Jean-Jacques Taylor chatted with fans on Wednesday and answered questions about the Dallas Cowboys and their upcoming game with the New York Giant. Here are some highlights:
What are the Cowboys chances against the Giants?
I think it's a bad match-up for Dallas because the strongest point of the Giants' defense is their front four, and the weakest part of the Cowboys is their OL. The Giants lead the NFL in negative plays with 45. They've won three in a row and they're streaking, while Dallas is reeling. The first quarter should be amazing as the Cowboys attempt to make a last stand, while the Giants try to deliver the KO punch
If the Sam Hurd/Roy Williams celebration last week was considered choreographed, wouldn't two players high fiving be considered choreographed as well?
I'm not going to get into why this is excessive and why that isn't excessive. Here's the deal, as I see it: The officials give guys 5-10 seconds to do a little dance or show some exuberance. We've seen a lot of guys celebrate. They even let Roy do his thing because he went to UT and he has done that for years and, frankly, it's a very brief celebration. But it's also done by himself. High fives and chest bumps are fine. This is all about common sense. It's really not that hard
If Mike Jenkins is one of our best cornerbacks, why has he gotten all these penalties the last two games? Has he just gotten away with contact in the past or has something in his play habits changed?
I think it's because he's gotten lazy. That doesn't mean he doesn't work hard or practice hard. It means his technique has gotten lazy and he's not moving his feet as much, so he has to result in grabbing too much because he's not moving is feet enough
Should Tashard Choice be used more in the games?
Not really. The coaches see him every day in practice. They've watched him for three years and have decided to reduce his role. I don't know that he's done something to take away playing time for the others. It's hard to get three RBs the ball. Someone has to sit.
How many of our starting OL are starting for this team next year? I don't see Kyle Kosier starting and maybe even Marc Columbo.
I had this very discussion with a couple of colleagues yesterday. As many as three could return or as few as one. Doug Free is the only who will certainly be back. Kyle Kosier, who has missed 15 games the last three seasons with injuries, turns 33 next month. It's unlikely he'll return, even though he's a good player, because he'll be a free agent at the end of the season. Andre Gurode will probably return, but he has a degenerative knee condition. Davis might have to take a pay cut to return. No way Colombo returns. He's been compromised by injuries.
Will the Cowboys draft a stud lineman next year?
They should take a tackle in the first round and a guard in 2nd or 3rd. But you also have to take guys who can play. I don't know if these guys can do that. For the most part, they're awful at drafting OL.
