Tackle Addition Fills Out 53-Man Roster

Posted by jellis at 10/14/2010 10:17 AM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

On Thursday the Cowboys added a player to fill the open spot on their 53-man roster, signing offensive tackle Jermey Parnell off the New Orleans practice squad.

Parnell joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi in May, 2009.

The 6-6, 290-pound Parnell played four years of basketball for Ole Miss before lettering in football in 2008.

A defensive lineman his one season of college work, Parnell moved to offense last summer.

Wouldn't suprise me if this guy is used as a tackle/TE hybrid, and is used more as an in-line blocker.

I think with back to back games against the Vikings and Giants . . . we're going to need help blocking up front, and I think adding a 6'6" 290lb body on the line will aid considerably.

Especially with Bennett being banged up, and us not having a legit blocking TE option outside of Witten.

Man, that would get me excited to see us just line up with a heavy offensive line, and just run the ball right down the Vikings throats.

Ok then... where does Holley fit in at? They had to cut two people to add Holley and this guy, and we know they cut Hamlin, so who else was cut?

It will be interesting to see if they view him as a T/TE or strictly as an offensive lineman. While I don't have great expectations of uncovering a potential "gem" on someone's practice squad, you never know.
