Allen Wranglers' wide receiver Terrell Owens recently spoke with KESN-FM's Ben & Skin, here are some of the highlights:
On his debut with the Allen Wranglers:
“It was a good outing. It was more than I expected so again, this is my first time playing indoor football, and I had a good time. I was just trying to go with the flow and get the feel of the game, and we came out with the win, which is more important than anything.”
On all three of his touchdowns coming in the first half:
“Even when I played with the Cowboys, it was pretty much the same little rodeo. Sometimes, I would be hot in the first half and then no catches or anything in the second half, and that’s just how it goes sometimes. I have no earthly idea what it was. I think we were just trying to get in a rhythm, and I’m sure (quarterback Bryan Randall) was trying to get other guys involved. Other than that, I was trying to take advantage of the opportunities that were coming my way, and I know the other team was kind of jacked up to be going against me. Overall, it was great. The fans were awesome. I’m definitely looking forward to the next home game.”
On what it’s like playing under indoor football rules:
“I’m using it as training and a way to really enhance and perfect some of my weaknesses such as route running and getting out of breaks, and it allows you to do that because of the condense space we’re playing in. The balls are coming out faster, and as a receiver, in order to catch the ball, you have to get your eyes on the ball and get your head turned around. The routes that we run are quicker and shorter. There are no routes, literally, over 15 yards unless you’re trying to stretch the field a little bit. You can barely do that so the ball is going to be up and out of the quarterback’s hands before you know it so it’s allowing me to enhance some of my skills such as route running. I’m taking advantage of the opportunity.”
On his 40 time:
“As far as my speed, I just got clocked at like a 4.43 or 4.45 on Monday. I have people that want to test me and try me out every now and then just because I’m 38. Some people in the league think because I’m 38, I’m done and over with, but I have to let the guys know that I am the real deal.”
On whether or not he regrets disrespecting the Cowboys star:
“No, absolutely not. I was a 49er at that point so my allegiance and all my pride was with the 49ers at that time. I can’t say that I regret that.”
