Sturm: No practical reason for Cowboys to fire Wade Phillips now

SportsDayDFW phoned Bob Sturm to comment on the Cowboys' loss to the Titans. The following is a transcription of the interview:
On Wade Phillips' job security: This sport is such that coaching changes seldom reap the instant results you are looking for. I think the only teams that have midseason coaching changes that are looking to get a head start on next year. For the life of me I can't imagine Jerry Jones will turn his attention to 2011 after four games. With that in mind, I don't think they are particularly well-coached, I don't think they were particularly ready to play coming off a bye week. What I am not sure is the solution is the firing of Wade from a practicality standpoint. Whom would you hire? It would have to be someone off the staff. And it sure seems Jason Garrett has his hands full as it is.
Was this a season-ending loss? There is a chance they can rebound. With each passing week, the chance gets dimmer. The good news is that some of these road games that we thought were going to be extremely difficult appear to be more manageable -- Minnesota, Green Bay -- these games look more winnable for various reasons. Bad news is you can't win a home game. Every time you give away one of these home games as favorites, they have to steal one on the road. And they haven't played the Giants or Eagles yet.
Rangers or the Cowboys? Which loss was worse? I think you would have to say the Rangers. But most Metroplex fans who like both teams would concede it seemed like one giant 7-hour punch to the stomach. 10-10-10 will not be well-remembered. It would have to be one of the worst days in Metroplex sports. Seldom do the Rangers play games that matter like this and the Cowboys, to continue the bad news all day, against a beatable team at home, certainly in the running for most ominous sports day in these parts.
