Good story, I had always heard jeri picked Ware over Spears at Parcells objection but it sounds like it was actually Stephen that was the voice of reason.

I'd have to score one for Stephen on this one

Yeah, that old Jerry. Stephen makes it sound like he's some sage in the draft room who listens to his scouts. I'd like to hear some of the dozens upon dozens of doozies where Jerry wasn't so lucky. Fuck Jerry and Stephen.

Yeah Stephen.... Now tell the story how the scouts wanted Kendrell Bell but you kicked everyone out of the draft room and took Quincy.

And you know what was most telling about that story? How Jerry was afraid of a confrontation with Parcells.

Garrett will be here as long as Jerry is alive because there is no risk of conflict.

Re: Spears though.... Could you have imagined if we took him at 11? Had we, I wonder who we would have selected at 20.

Also as a fan I was more excited about Spears than Ware. I had seen a few LSU games that year and Spears was a very good DL. Saw him get a few sacks and tackles for loss. Not sure why he never was an impact player for us.

Amazing story there in so many ways.

They claimed they didn't draft Merriman because of the Postons, but I always wondered if that last second news they discovered was the PED use. It was always pretty obvious Merriman was way into that.

What might be most amazing to me is how this happened on the day of the draft. I ask again like I have before about this organization, how are these decisions not worked out several days or weeks ahead of time?

Also, I was super pumped about Spears also. Really thought he was the next beast DL. Don't think he ever really wanted it that badly, though.

But MB4 might not want to listen to that. He always claimed there was no way Ware wasn't Bill's first choice.
