OXNARD, Calif. — Cole Beasley walked into Jason Garrett’s office Friday and told the Cowboys coach he wasn’t going to play football anymore.
“He just said it wasn’t in his heart at this time,” Garrett explained. “I’ll leave it at that… We will continue to evaluate the situation.”
Beasley, an undrafted rookie wide receiver from SMU, caught everyone off guard with the announcement, including his roommate in Oxnard, Danny Coale.
“I had no inclination or indication from him,” said Coale. “I was a little surprised by it.”
Beasley has since been placed on the exempt/left squad list. Asked if he would be welcomed back, Garrett said, “Yes. Absolutely.” But Stephen Jones isn’t clamoring for Beasley’s return.
“We’ve got more important things to worry about,” Jones said.
