IRVING -- Cowboys coach Wade Phillips stressed the need to make changes on special teams.
In the last two days we've seen Brandon Williams moved up the depth chart to the first-team units on special teams and Jason Williams and Leon Williams moved to the scout units.
Brandon Williams has been inactive all season and might become active for the first time in his NFL career since he was a fourth-round pick from Texas Tech in 2009. Williams spent the entire 2009 season on injured reserve after suffering a left knee injury during the preseason.
Phillips said Brandon Williams has an excellent first step as a pass rusher, but he's not consistent enough to spell any of the outside pass rushers.
The Cowboys, last in kickoff coverage, need a boost of some kind. Moving players around on the kickoff coverage is one way to solve the issue.
Yet, Jason Williams and Leon Williams haven't had a big impact on special teams.
Jason Williams does have six total special teams tackles and was praised by Phillips a few weeks ago, but it seems he might have slipped up in his work on special teams.
Leon Williams has three special teams tackles and hasn't made an impact in the few snaps he gets in the base defense.
