Sources: Tony Romo to have X-rays
By Chris Mortensen
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will have new X-rays taken of his broken collarbone within the next 24 hours to further evaluate whether he will return under center in December, according to team sources.
Romo may have the X-rays taken today at Cowboys Stadium as the Cowboys play the Detroit Lions, a source said. If the X-rays are discouraging, the team will discuss whether he should be placed on injured reserve. But a source conceded there was no urgency to make a decision.
If the broken collarbone is healing properly, there's a growing sentiment in the organization and from owner Jerry Jones that Romo should return to the lineup if he can help them to a strong finish, regardless of the very slim playoff chances. Jones believes a strong finish has value for the team's morale and marketing efforts for 2011, but not at the risk of further injury to Romo if there is uncertainty about the collarbone.
When Romo broke his collarbone on Oct. 25 in a Monday night loss to the New York Giants, it was reported he would need anywhere from six to 10 weeks to properly heal.
