IRVING, Texas – While some wonder if the Cowboys could lose Rob Ryan and/or Joe DeCamillis from their coaching staff to head coaching jobs elsewhere, they might also need to look at the player personnel staff, too.

According to multiple sources, Indianapolis has requested permission to speak with assistant director of player personnel Tom Ciskowski for its general manager vacancy. The Colts are looking for a personnel chief after firing Bill Polian and his son, Chris.

St. Louis could be another option after the Rams fired Billy Devaney. Ciskowski interviewed with the Rams in 2006 for the general manager’s job. Baltimore’s director of player personnel Eric DeCosta is also a reported candidate for both jobs.

Ciskowski has been with the Cowboys since 1992 and was named the director of college and pro scouting in 2008 when Jeff Ireland left for Miami. His title was changed to assistant director of player personnel in 2011. He had been the team’s assistant director of college scouting from 2001-07.

Unless I'm mistaken, Jerry is pretty high on Cisk. This is interesting. Could Jerry relinquish his GM title and hand it to Cisk to prevent him from leaving?

Never happen.

But don't worry, I'm sure if we lose Ciskowski Jerry'll have Lacewell at the Ranch by next week.

Jerry could give Cisk the title and a healthy pay raise, with the understanding that his role and the organizational structure isn't going to change. It would allow him to keep his guy, as well as stop getting all the heat for being the GM.

I tweeted jimmy monday if it was jerry or A poor scouting departement run by Tom Ciskowski..he replied right back to me that ciskowski worked for him and was good.

Kind of funny.

I still think the fact that parcells would not promote ciskowski and chose jeff ireland and brian gaine to be his right hand guys over Bryan Broaddus and Tom Ciskowski and larry lacewell means something. He fired lacewell and broaddus. As soon as ireland was gone jerry just gave ciskowski his job.

I was enthusiastic about it at the time from everything I read on ciskowski and other guys who have been here awhile like chris hall....but the proof is in the pudding. These guys have missed in our secondary almost completely in the draft since taking over in january of 08. All of the safeties and corners they have drafted have struggled, that includes first round pick mike jenkins sans the run in 09 down the stretch.

consider me not worried that we lose ciskowski and that it could almost be a good thing if it means garrett gets to find another proven guy to do it. New voices and evaluations on this team would be a good thing to me.

but consider me worried jerry just puts lacewell back there or garrett just puts judd in charge of it.

@JimIrsay Mr. Irsay, trust me you don't want Ciskowski. Jerry is the brains in Dallas, please take him. I hear he can also coach too.

excellent idea.

If irsay hires Tom C, the idiots who dont even know who ciskowski is right this moment will be screaming that jerry blew it by letting him go after he gets to go take over a situation where he will have the first pick in every round next year....

it will be good times.

Knowing Jerry, that's probably what's going to happen. Or they'll just promote from within.

Our roster acquisitions are now on going to be run by Tom C's understudy. Get ready for it.

I think we can identify talent well enough I guess. I just don't trust them in asset allotment and big picture planning.

CMd don't say it
