SportsDayDFW.com columnist Kevin Sherrington chatted with fans on Tuesday and answered questions about the Dallas Cowboys. Here are some highlights:
I may have been wrong about Garrett, though he needs to finish the season, but I think he needs to beat Philly, at least once. But, I am beginning to come around to him and I may have been wrong all these years.
I don't know if you were wrong about Garrett or not, Jerry Jones appears to have been right, and it's all the ammunition he needs to make Garrett head coach at some point. Why he hasn't already done it is beside the point. Jerry wants Garrett to be head coach. It appears it would be a good choice, it makes him look right, and it gives him the opportunity to continue business as usual.
If Cowboys have a chance to draft Von Miller, do they take him?
Good question, but of course it depends on where they're drafting. One of the down sides of their surge is that it's bringing them to the middle of the pack. Would you rather be 7-9 or 3-13? Both are out of the playoffs. But 3-13 gets you a better draft pick, and this organization needs all the help it can get when drafting. Miller's a very intriguing player, but they have bigger needs than OLB. Start with OL and the secondary. Of course, you always take the best player available.
Should the Cowboys hire Garrett full time or wait?
Waiting makes it seem like Jerry is being more sober, more circumspect and not making knee-jerk decisions. It doesn't serve any purpose to give him the job yet. Why not wait? It won't be a surprise anyway.
Tashard Choice had a nice game against the Colts. Has he done enough to get more touches? Also, will Marion Barber return to the starting lineup when he's healthy?
For the most part, and with the obvious exception of Michael Vick and Kevin Kolb, coaches don't like to take away starting status because of injury. But this is a little different. Why the Cowboys insist on starting Barber is beyond me. He's so clearly inferior to both Felix Jones and Tashard Choice, even I can tell. If it's because of the money that he's making and Jerry doesn't want to pay him to sit on the bench, that's a bad idea, too. He's still getting the money, no matter what. No use rewarding an overpaid player twice.
