We've been over the list of Cowboys free agents ad nauseam: Doug Free, Gerald Sensabaugh, Marcus Spears, Kyle Kosier, Stephen Bowen, Jason Hatcher, etc. Time will tell what happens with those guys -- hopefully sooner than later.

For now, let's look ahead to a group we know will be here this season, trying to increase their market value. Pretty interesting list:

Martellus Bennett
Keith Brooking
Tashard Choice
Bradie James
Jon Kitna
Mat McBriar
Kevin Ogletree
Orlando Scandrick
Anthony Spencer

That's three starters (Brooking, James, Spencer), a Pro Bowl punter (McBriar), an aging backup quarterback (Kitna) and some young backups looking to become starters here or elsewhere (Bennett, Choice, Ogletree, Scandrick).

For most, the 2011 season should decide their future in Dallas and/or the size of their next paycheck.

I definitely want to retain McBriar. Scandrick is quality, but I wouldn't pay him a healthy salary. I'd sooner draft another mid round corner.

The rest can GTFO.

Martellus Bennett - I would trade him this year. He's too talented to not be starting but with Witten here, he stays #2.
Keith Brooking - Enjoy retirement.
Tashard Choice - If Murray is as good as advertised, I would trade him.
Bradie James - Not a fan but he's solid. Would sign him to a reasonable 2-year deal.
Jon Kitna - One-year deal if he doesn't want to call it a career.
Mat McBriar - Never let him hit free agnecy. Sign him ASAP.
Kevin Ogletree - I think we can sign him to a cheap 1-year tender. Otherwise, adios.
Orlando Scandrick - Re-sign him.
Anthony Spencer - Uhhhh, not sure here. I like him but he just hasn't shown he can be that opposite end complement to DWare.

I'd be willing to bet only four will be back - Bennet, Choice, Scandrick, and McBriar.

The last two. Bennett and Choice won't be back. And I don't think they want to be anyway.

You might be right. Both have issues. Choice will probably command a lot of money. We'll have to see how they do in 2011.

I don't know how Choice will command anything. What the hell has he ever done in the league to warrant a big contract?

I don't think Bennett fits in our plans anymore, Jmo

I say try to trade him first.

The quicker he's off the team the better off they'll be. He's an idiot, a moron and that's the truth with him.

Brady James is going to be a tough call. I guess it'll depend on what the young guys do this year. If they even show a little bit, I'd let James walk before I'd tie up years and money in him.

I had a lot of hope for Bennett, but he hasn't finished growing up yet. If he could wake up every morning, put on his big boy pants, and actually put in a hard day's work he could be another good TE in the NFL. It sucks for him to have to play behind Witten but that is not what holds him back. He thinks he is still in college where his natural talent covered for his lack of effort.

Promise and expectations only get you so far. Sooner or later you have to put forth effort and more often than not he seems to lack that desire and willingness to do so.

If Martellus blows up this year, Jerry will think it's because he finally grasped the game and fulfilled his immense potential. I would think otherwise.
