IRVING, Texas -- Sean Lissemore’s cell phone had about 20 text messages after Sunday’s game. His Facebook page had a ton of comments, too.

Who knew the defensive lineman could be such a dangerous kick returner?

Had the Cowboys not coughed up a 24-point lead to Detroit, Lissemore’s 38-yard kickoff return would have made for a nice bit part in an easy victory. Instead it’s largely just a forgotten footnote.

“People were asking me, ‘Was that you?’ What are you doing back there catching a kickoff?’” Lissemore said. “I didn’t know the kicker slipped until I watched the film and saw it. I thought he was trying to kick it to me because normally you put a guy like me back there and they target you’ve got a tight end and a kick returner and a defensive lineman with his hands taped up, hey, let’s hit it to him and see what happens.”

Lissemore’s 38-yard return was the longest by a Cowboy this season and the longest since Bryan McCann had a 38-yarder on Dec. 19, 2010 vs. Washington.

“I made the first cut and I felt like I was in space, so I was like, ‘Oh, this is pretty good,’ then I was thinking about getting up the sideline and protecting the ball,” Lissemore said. “I wish I would’ve switched the ball so I could have stiff armed the guy. I don’t know. Beggars can’t be choosers, know what I mean?”

Lissemore is not about to ask for more kick return duty, but he has done a nice job in the defensive line rotation. He played more vs. the Lions with Jason Hatcher out with a calf injury.

“It’s important for the coaches to trust me in different situations,” Lissemore said. “Whether they put me at nose or end it’s one of those situations where I have to make sure there’s not a drop off.”
