The Cowboys made a roster spot for veteran guard Derrick Dockery on Monday by officially cutting offensive tackle Sam Young.
A sixth-round pick of Notre Dame in 2010, Young did not play at tackle last season for the Cowboys and still has practice-squad eligibility. The Cowboys are likely hoping Young can return to the team if he clears waivers.
Currently, the Cowboys have just three tackles on the team and practice squad in Doug Free, Tyron Smith and Jermey Parnell.
Dockery, an eight-year veteran and local product from Garland, Texas, spent six seasons with Washington, including the last two. It’s uncertain whether he will immediately push for a starting job at guard, but he virtually replaces Montrae Holland, who was cut Sunday.
