Sam Hurd an option to return now
July, 26, 2011

SAN ANTONIO -- The Cowboys' decision to part ways with Roy Williams could open the door for the return of Sam Hurd. However, there could be some competition for the veteran wide receiver.

According to a source, Hurd received interest from a few teams Tuesday in addition to the Cowboys.

Hurd is looking for a chance to earn playing time as a wide receiver after spending most of his time with the Cowboys as a No. 4 or 5 wide receiver and special teams stalwart. Had Williams returned, Hurd almost assuredly would have signed somewhere else.

With Williams out of the picture, the Cowboys' No. 3 receiver spot behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant is currently a battle between Kevin Ogletree and rookie Dwayne Harris. Hurd has 45 catches for 630 yards and two touchdowns in his career but has never had more than 19 catches in a season. He finished second on the team with 21 special teams tackles.

Hurd knows the offense and all three wide receiver spots, which could make him more attractive to the Cowboys should they not look for another wideout on the open market.

He's slower than your grandma's grandma

They're all dead so that makes him really slow. TBH I never have paid much attention to how slow he is, but he's made plays when we've needed him. I'll take him over Roy Shit-Eating Grin Williams any day.

We have that FB now from the trade whose name escapes me. Crayton had a bad attitude and must have ran a 5.1. No way.

Churn the bottom of the roster. Hurd has stagnated unto nothingness and needs a fresh start somewhere else. Bring in some vets on the cheap and let them compete with the rookie, Holley, and Ogletree.

I'm for keeping Hurd. He knows all three positions, he's played decently when given a shot, knows the offense.

Oh, and he's a stud special teamer.

If Hurd is a Cowboy this season we will be swearing his name and showing him the door next year.

Depends on what hs role is here...if its as the 4th WR and special teams demon, there's nothing wrong with that

If we have to depend on him to be the #3 WR, that might be a problem...I dont think he scares anyone but he does work hard and he knows the system
