Report: Saints GM Mickey Loomis Sees Drew Brees As ‘Very Good,’ Not Great
Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints, NFL | Comments

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that the New Orleans Saints see Drew Brees as merely a “very good,” not a “great,” quarterback and are looking to pay him accordingly.

Cole cites three sources saying that Saints GM Mickey Loomis corrected others calling Brees “great” during a conversation about Brees’ contract negotations this week at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

Brees and the Saints reportedly remain $5 million apart on a new deal for Brees, who finished up a six-year, $60 million deal in New Orleans this past season. The Saints are looking to clear up salary cap space for other moves, including a guaranteed deal for defensive end Will Smith.

Brees set an NFL single-season record with 5,476 passing yards in 2011. His accomplishments in his six years with the Saints include four playoff berths and a championship in Super Bowl XLIV.

Ridiculous comment.

Not even Jerry would say something that moronic.

Actually, he goes opposite end of the spectrum and calls horrible players good.

Yeah he's just a "very good" QB that got you guys tyour first and possibly only Super Bowl Championship ever. And he will be a first ballot Hall Of Famer.

This is a fourth hand account of what was said about Brees. I'll bet the intent of the comment was to say the guy is very good, but he isn't Manning or Brady.

Seems like a smart bargaining chip.

You not great, take very good money now.

He's better than both those guys right now. And he outplayed and beat Manning head to head in a Super Bowl. If that was his point, it was pretty lame.

lol

Brees is on a much better team and in a much weaker conference. If Brees was better than Manning and Brady he would be in the Super Bowl every year instead of getting knocked out of the playoffs by Seattle and San Francisco.

You say some dumb stuff being the libtard that you are, but saying he is on a "much better team in a much weaker conference" is pretty stupid.

Didnt the NFC just win the super bowl- AGAIN

The Colts won two games this year without Manning, Brees is not good enough to lead that team to the playoffs the way Manning did. The Patriots had one of the worst defenses in the league last year yet Brady managed to get them into the Super Bowl while Brees is getting knocked out by San Francisco. As for the conferences, you are judging based on the Super Bowl alone and not taking into account the 64 regular season games played between NFC and AFC opponents. 2011 was the first time the NFC won more games than the AFC (33-31) since 1995. Over the last decade the AFC has a commanding 354-284-2 lead over the NFC, and a 5-5 tie in the Super Bowl.

As I said, a much better team in a much weaker conference.

The NFC is better than the afc by a large margin.

And if Manning had played every game this yr, they might have been 5-11 or 6-10. The rest of that team is terrible right now, especially defensively. They havent been this bad Manning's entire career.

The Saints would be horrible without Brees.
