Saints cut former Pro Bowler Stinchcomb
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 15, 2011, 9:13 PM EDT

The Saints cut their longest tenured player Monday when they let go of tackle Jonathan Stinchcomb.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune points out that the 2003 second-round pick was among the most popular players in the organization. He was the team’s Man of the Year in 2008 and a Pro Bowler in 2009.

Stinchcomb’s play slipped in 2010 because of a knee injury and he underwent a serious quadricep surgery in the offseason. The Saints will get younger at right tackle with either Zach Strief or Charles Brown.

“He’s gonna be on the ‘Wall of Fame’ that we have down our hallway, and I think he should be in the Saints’ Hall of Fame one day,” G.M. Mickey Loomis told the Picayune. “He’s meant a lot to our organization, for a number of reasons, including his play on the field.”
