For the most part, everyone knew what the Cowboys were getting in Rob Ryan from a personality standpoint. It was more the scope and, really, the immediacy of his promises of greatness last week that raised some eyebrows.

For the guy who hired him, though, that wasn't a problem. It's part and parcel to Ryan being himself.

"I think anytime you're around people who have confidence, that's a good thing," Jason Garrett said. "You want confident people. You want people to believe in themselves. You want people to believe in what they do, believe in each other, believe in the program and the organization and those are good things."

Ryan's personality is dramatically different from Garrett's, though they clearly share similar levels of energy and enthusiasm for the game.

The new Cowboys defensive coordinator gets his bravado from his father Buddy, who also passed it along to brother Rex Ryan. That Ryan cockiness was on display on Thursday in Indianapolis as well, when the Jets head coach promised a Super Bowl win, again.

The Cowboys head coach wasn't interested in following suit with any guarantees.

"I cannot do the same," Garrett said. "We all want to compete and certainly participate and win a Super Bowl. We're going to be more focused on the process along the way."

Rather than worrying about opening day or next February, Garrett was predictably focused on being great on Thursday.
