This videotape shows Russian Navy commandos on a Somalian pirate ship shortly after the pirates had captured a Russian oil tanker. The Euro Union navy that patrols these waters would not interfere because they feared there could be casualties.

All explanations are in Russian with a single exception of when a wounded pirate says something in English. All conversations between the commandos are in Russian. If you don't understand Russian, the pictures speak for themselves.

The soldiers freed their compatriots and the tanker. The Russian Navy Commandos moved the pirates back to their own (pirate) ship, searched the pirate ship for weapons and explosives, and then they left the ship and exploded it with all remaining pirates hand-cuffed to it.

The commandos sank the pirate ship along with the pirates and without any court proceedings, lawyers etc. That is, they used the anti-piracy laws of the 18th and 19th centuries where the captain of the rescuing ship has the right to decide what to do with the pirates. Usually, they were hung.

I would think from now on, Russian ships will not be targets for Somalia pirates.

That's what I like to hear. The bleeding heart liberals would demand they be tried and housed in prison for the rest of their lives.

Just shoot their asses and throw them overboard.

Far be it for me to be associated with the bleeding hearts on this... First I thought good, show the pirates what is going to happen to them. But on second thought, I don't know that it's going to stop the people who are "employing" the pirates from threatening them and their families into actually serving as pirates. Maybe that's not what is going on, but I suspect that it is. Until we take out the organization from the top, I somehow doubt it will deter much.

I guess that's the risk you take being a pirate.

I think this is staged, though. Basically moon landing 2.0. Noone got blowed up.

Those were my same thoughts, you can just look at those guys in the video and tell that they are a miserable lot. The guys in charge aren't saying damn we lost a skiff or damn we lost good men, they are saying find more men and another boat and don't be afraid to kill people next time.
