Roy Williams sues ex-girlfriend to get engagement ring back
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 6, 2011, 6:58 AM EDT
On Valentine’s Day, Cowboys receiver Roy Williams mailed his girlfriend an engagement ring worth $76,600. The girlfriend rejected the proposal but kept the ring, and now Williams is suing her.
The Odessa American reports that Williams filed a lawsuit Thursday, claiming he should be able to regain possession of the ring he sent to Brooke Daniels, a former beauty pageant winner who lived with Williams for a year.
In the lawsuit, Williams says he asked for the ring to be returned and Daniels said she lost it. At that point, Williams reported it lost to his insurance company, but the insurance company’s investigation indicated that Daniels’ father, Michael Daniels, remained in possession of it.
Michael Daniels confirmed to the Odessa American that he has the ring and said he’s going to give it back to Williams to avoid the lawsuit, even though he says Williams is lying about the claim that the ring was lost, and that Williams told his daughter that she could keep it.
“He said [to Brooke Daniels], ‘I’m not like a lot of people, I don’t want the ring back. You’ll eventually come back to me,’ and she didn’t,” Michael Daniels said.
So it sounds like Williams will get what he wanted out of the lawsuit. Even if he didn’t get what he wanted out of the marriage proposal.
