This is my personal opinion and it has been for about two weeks now..if we don't take Decastro, I think we are taking a DE/DT..

Which DL at 14 is your favorite?

Poe
Brockers
Cox
Coples
Other (who)
And why?

Poe because I think he offers the chance to have the biggest impact.

I like Coples but I'm not sure if he can stand up and play LOLB and I don't think he's big enough or has the mindset to be a 3-4 DE.

Brockers is a mystery to me and Cox is very solid but unspectacular IMO.

I take it in your scenario Melvin Ingram is already drafted?

Yes, Ingram is off the board..

In my opinion, I believe we are targeting Cox or Brockers..I don't know which we like
more but I think one or the other will be available

You bring up a good point about Coples.. Probably some truth to that..

Coples looks like he's all about the 5 technique. His strength inside is better than his edge burst.

And ge knocked down 2 or 3 balls in the senior bowl

if he did play the 5 technique he'd give us the best pass rusher we have had there since we switched to a 3-4. do you really think he can hold up against the run as 3-4 end though? he's a good 20 lbs lighter than any of our current DE's.

Have to go with Cox. Poe screams workout warrior and the past success of LSU defensive linemen scares me off of Brockers.

We kept spencer for this reason lol..our 5tech can rack up the sacks while our OLB contains the run..cowboys football

Yes, He plays physically. And at this age these guys can do whatever they want with their weight if asked. See last years pick for reference

and he has a spot In nickel packages out wide.

Cox or Brockers.

I dont know what happened to Brockers at the combine, but he was a pretty dominant player last year against quality teams. He has the look of an ideal 3-4 DE. Wouldnt spend a top-10 pick on him, but getting him or Cox somewhere around where we pick (or a tad later) wouldnt be the worst thing.

I like Coples. If the coaches are convinced he could play in a 3-4, I'd go with him. The 4-man nickel d would look like this:

LDE Coples
LDT Ratliff
RDT Lissemore or Hatcher
RDE Ware
LB Lee
LB Carter
NB Scandrick
CB Carr
CB Jenkins
S Pool
S Sensabaugh

Definitely a much quicker unit.

Good thing we are paying Spencer $8M..to not play on our most important downs(in this scenario)

Would you draft Brockers at 14 if he was guaranteed to be Marcus Spears' clone?

I mean I guess we sort of made it through FA w/ a respectable crop. Even with that $9M cap penalty. And then also we got hit with that goodell thing

Probably not. Spears is an ok player, just not the difference maker people thought he might be (like Tuna did)

I still think he would have benefitted alot from going to a team that played the 4-3. He had some quality seasons at LSU as the LDE, I think one season he even had 9 or 10 sacks.

NSIS

They need up the field rushers, penetrators, and guys who generally need to be accounted for. No way do we need another Spears

Would you trade this pick straight up for jj watt is the question you should've asked

Fletcher Cox or Dontari Poe. Might even take a look at Devon Still if the others are drafted.

Brockers screams Tyson Jackson. Great against the run, offers little else otherwise. That's how I have him pegged in the pros at least.
