Former Rep. Ron Paul of Texas called the recent IRS fiasco troubling — but writes that the only way Congress can protect the freedoms of Americans from a long pattern of suspected IRS abuse is to “shutter the doors” of the agency “once and for all.”
The longtime GOP congressman writes that IRS agents in the 1930s were essentially “hit squads” against opponents of the New Deal, and that allegations of IRS abuse spanned the administrations of Presidents Kennedy, Nixon, Clinton and George W. Bush.

•••SNIP•••

“The federal government will get along just fine without its immoral claim on the fruits of our labor, particularly if the elimination of federal income taxes are accompanied by serious reduction in all areas of spending, starting with the military spending beloved by so many who claim to be opponents of high taxes and big government,” he writes. “While it is important for Congress to investigate the most recent scandal and ensure all involved are held accountable, we cannot pretend that the problem is a few bad actors. The very purpose of the IRS is to transfer wealth from one group to another while violating our liberties in the process, thus the only way Congress can protect our freedoms is to repeal the income tax and shutter the doors of the IRS once and for all.”

:lol Sure, Paul should know better; there's no convincing people that their own good doesn't lie with government oversight. It's too easy to look for a handout.

His ideas on finance and tax reform are some of the stupidest things I've ever read. Flat tax? Yeah, works great for the wealthy. Not so much for anyone else.

His ideas on scaling back the military, giving up the empire and having our troops ACTUALLY for defense sound great but in actual practice may be among the worst ideas of all time.

I do think he'd attempt to champion some reform domestically in terms of legalization, scaling back police forces and prison reform which would be great, but I doubt he'd be able to do anything because the lobbies for all those things are too powerful.

I get why people like him. His ideas are simple, and don't require much intelligence to grasp. However those are often the most dangerous ideas, because they can gain popularity despite being terrible - because people with low intelligence (Paul's supporters for the most part) lack foresight.

grandpas been drinking again

Lets be real, the IRS is horribly innefficient at collecting money, and the reason it hasnt been changed is because it is a tool for social policy. Want renewable investment, through them a bone, want homes built, let people write off the interest. Want the rich punished, poor to get more than they pay in?

It is the easiest way to do all that, with the added benifet of accumulating a shit ton of power.

An intellectual calamity is so much more appealing than a simple solution. The idea of complicated = intellectualism has only allowed people not really involved in the process to feel intelligent by association simply by nodding agreement to awful ideas. We can pretend we're on an up-tick simply because our party is in power, but the reality is we're not.

Given how little you understand about taxation and finance, that's not surprising.

LOL

If anyone thinks a flat tax is a good idea that's a great litmus test to see if they understand economics or the concept of fair at all.

Go compare 15% of 30k and 15% of 1mil and get back to me on who is hurt more by having to drop 15%. then stfu because you're a fucking homo-******-bitch.

Depends on the flat tax. There are multiple kinds. For a tax to be considered flat, it need only have a flat marginal rate. A marginal flat tax allows for deductions and/or exemptions based on, say, income level.

Why can't you all just shut up and kneel before our Lord and Savior "The Democrat Party"

Why when you can get every Black, Hispanic, Student over the age of 18, and out of work White persons to vote for you, you must be the party of intellect. Couldn't be that you massage their desires and make them feel better about their horrible life choices or feelings of entitlement. Nope, intellectually superior is the only route you can take here.

I wish I could say it was difficult staying as informed as I am. But it's not. I'm just that good.

The left always roll their eyes when their leaders are shown to be corrupt frauds. It is like they already knew it and it's no big deal. Just business as usual, the Chicago/Alinski way.
