Yes, it's another Romo thread, but with substance. Now I would like to go back to Bill Parcells for a moment. Yes, that guy. Yet while the game has passed him by, I believe that his philosophy of football and style of coaching players still very much apply today. Remember the Seattle, Wildcard game? Sure you do, you guys who bash Parcells' tenure here love to bring that particular game up. So how does this tie Romo and Parcells together and how is it still applicable today? Well, I'll tell you. Parcells while here, with Romo as his starter, loved to micro-manage him because Parcells knew back then what you all are starting to come around to now. Romo is his own, worst enemy, having way, too much confidence in his ability. He always has, and he always will. While not necessarily a bad thing in itself, when you start to forget, or ignore, the basics, such as protecting the football while scrambling (just tuck it away!) and throwing the ball away when nothing is there, it becomes catastrophic to your football team.
So back to that Wildcard game. Parcells seriously reigned (sic) him in, not letting him throw the ball all over the field even though one of their starting corners was selling insurance a week before. Bottomline, Parcells had no other choice if he wanted to win that game. Good plan IMO but shit just went awry. While Romo is a more mature and experienced player now, and not a 1st year starter like he was then, he still needs to be micro-managed. With the Oline still maturing, which looks to be a year long process, we have no choice right now but to do that anyways. It's pretty sad with all these weapons, and where Romo is supposed to be in his maturation as a QB that we have to do that, but there it is.
We're all out of annointing oil as we've used up a case already. It's time we put the next batch on back-order, fellas. Romo is what he is.
