Tony Romo on 'little brother' Dez Bryant: WR has credibility, clout in locker room that wasn't there earlier

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo joined NFL Network analyst Rich Eisen and former Cowboys star Michael Irvin during training camp on Sunday evening to talk everything football. Here are some of the highlights:

On where he right now just a few days into training camp:
Romo: “Well you’re in camp so it’s about improvement. It’s about the team. It’s a brand-new team. I know every year we have all these rankings systems, we do all these things, and it’s based off of really the previous season what everyone’s done. But anyone who’s played this game for an extended period of time understands that each year you come to camp, you come with a new team, and that’s an exciting thing for us.”

On how he’s feeling coming off back surgery:
Romo: “I feel good. I think what you end up doing is using your back or using your body for the right time. So if I went out of two-a-days and then you ran all day, you did everything like that, well it would get heavy. It’s like coming off of any surgery. You want to make sure that you’re working it, but you’re doing all the things in the weight room, in the training room to get yourself feeling good, and then when you have the chance to come out here, you test it and you know how many reps you can do before you kind of know that your days is over. And before you get back to where you’re 100 percent, you kind of have to watch the numbers as you go through the process, so that’s all we’re doing right now.”

On what type of offense fans should expect:
Romo: “I don’t want to sit here and tell you what we’re going to be. I think that sometimes that’s a pointless ting for people to do is to tell you what they’re going to be when they got to go out and prove it. This game will humble a lot of people. It’ll make your team — you can think you’re really good and all of a sudden you’re not. People can think you’re not very good and all of a sudden you’re very good. So I don’t want to get into predicting. I do know that I feel very confident that our team can execute at a very high level and do some things that I think are going to give us a great opportunity to win football games I think that we have that chance.”

On what it’s like to feed the ball to Dez Bryant”
Romo: “Well a camera can say a lot. It doesn’t always tell the truth but makes for fun dialogue between a lot of different people. I think when you’re actually around Dez, you know where his heart is. Even when it looks bad, it ain’t bad. It’s always like a — there’s no malicious, manipulative intent to do anything. And so people talk about it but we just kind of go on. We got a game the next week. You got to push aside and you go. He’s a competitive guy who loves to play. You want that guy ….”

On his relationship with Bryant:
Romo: “Oh man if I was getting married this year, he’d be in my wedding. He’s like a little brother to me. I’ve been able to kind of, as he came in, been able to kind of see him start off and mold himself into the player that he’s become. I try to help him. Every once in awhile when he gets going and stuff, he knows when I say something stern to him, it’s important. He knows his position, but he also has clout, he has a lot of credibility in that locker room so he’s able to do some things that he wasn’t able to do three or four years ago and that’s reward for being a guy who bring sit and plays well."
