EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Everything was going so right for Tony Romo and the Cowboys. Then, it wasn't.
The Cowboys quarterback completed 23 of 36 passes for 342 yards, a touchdown and a 101.9 rating. While they were good fantasy numbers, they rang hollow in the end.
"I cost us the game," Romo said. "I've got to do a better job right now."
Two plays turned a memorable season opener into a forgettable one for Romo as the Cowboys blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in a 27-24 loss to the Jets.
"This game came down to one or two plays, the plays that I gave them the ball," Romo said.
The Cowboys led 24-17 and were driving midway through the fourth quarter to ice the game. They faced a third-and-goal at the New York 2 when pressure forced Romo to scramble up the middle. It appeared he had a clear shot to the end zone, but defensive lineman Mike DeVito closed fast. Romo lost the ball as he ducked his head and was hit by DeVito. Sione Pouha recovered for the Jets.
Romo didn't lose any fumbles last season when he played six games, and he lost only four in 2009.
