Rolle: Giants ‘absolutely’ making the playoffs
http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/trueblue/rolle_giants_absolutely_making_the_playoffs/

The Giants are going to make the playoffs, Antrel Rolle told the world Tuesday afternoon.

The safety wasn’t backing down on his weekly appearance on WFAN, saying his team will make the playoffs despite three straight losses, the Packers (11-0) awaiting them next week and the team’s recent history of second-half collapses.

“Absolutely. Absolutely, man,” Rolle said on 660 AM radio. “Let me tell you something: We’re going to fight. I don’t care how we fight. I don’t care what corner we back ourselves up into.

“And you know what, everyone might be off the Giants’ bandwagon, which is fine. We’ve only had us from the beginning anyway.”

Uh-oh. The Giants are playing the “us against the world” card and taking on their own fans, and it’s not even Brandon Jacobs doing it!

The problem with Rolle predicting a Giants playoff berth is that he did the same thing last season. And that didn’t quite work out if you recall. And as Justin Tuck said Monday night after the loss, “The only thing that’s different right now [from previous Giants’ collapses] is we still got the season to play.”

But after getting thrashed 49-24, Rolle and the Giants (6-5) understand there need to be changes. Of course, Rolle, Justin Tuck and Chris Canty called for changes last week after the devastating 17-10 loss to the Eagles. In that game, the Giants seemed to lack intensity.

That’s why Rolle said the Giants have to decide who they want to be, almost toeing the line of calling out his teammates and their desire. He made a similar statement Monday night after the loss.

“I’m a fighter,” he said. “I fought to the end last night, and I’m going to fight to the end of the season no matter which road it takes. We have to figure out at the end of the day, what’s our purpose? What are we here for? Are we trying to be a playoff contending team or are we just going out there and going through the motions? ...”

“Everyone within the Giants organization needs to get together, coaches and players, and figure out what is going on and how do we stop this bleeding at the end of the day. Because, I don’t know, clearly there is something wrong.”

However, Rolle said the Giants will surprise everyone who jumps off the Big Blue bandwagon. So, no, there is no “here we go again” feeling in the Giants locker room, he said (apparently the safety, sadly, does not appreciate Whitesnake).

“We only need us in order to get to where we need to get,” he said. “If the fans want to be there, then be there. We will love you. We would love to have you. We will definitely appreciate you. But if you’re not there, if you jump off the bandwagon, that’s fine too.

“We’re gonna play ball regardless. We’re professional football players. We’re the New York Football Giants. We are not going to go out without a fight. We are going to fight and that’s it.”

But there are problems.

And they reared their ugly head in the 577 total yards the Saints churned out against the Giants. Rolle thinks the New York defense had a lot to do with it and not just Drew Brees and New Orleans’ many weapons.

“Not taking anything away from the Saints, they are a great offensive team but I think we definitely made them look a whole lot better than they actually are,’’ Rolle said.

He went on to say the Giants need to be a unified team and figure this slide and how to fix it together. That might sound like cliched, athlete-speak, but after last season’s collapse and the prospect of yet another one, unity is crucial if the Giants are going to turn things around.

And he says they have to get back to playing that way. Of course, he’s also intimating that the Giants aren’t doing that now. Actually, he’s not intimating it. He’s saying it.

The Giants have not made the playoffs since 2008.

“When we want to play ball as a Giants team and when everyone is on the same page meaning players, coaches, everyone else, we play ball,” Rolle said. “That’s what we need to get back to. We need to find a way to get back to that. I don’t know what it’s going to take, I don’t know what has to happen, but we need to find a way to get back to that at the end of the day. That’s who we are. That’s when we play our best ball.”
