Laurent Robinson: 'Hopefully my dream can come true and I can stay a Cowboy'

Related Laurent Robinson watched the Super Bowl on Sunday thinking about how the Cowboys need to be playing on that stage.
Having the division rival New York Giants win their second Super Bowl in five years was considered a motivational tool.
“It’s motivation for us next year,” Robinson said Tuesday.
But what’s most interesting about his response is that Robinson might not even be with the Cowboys next season. After all, the Cowboys wide receiver is an unrestricted free agent.
During a Tuesday charity event at Medical City Hospital in Dallas, Robinson was even sporting his No. 81 Cowboys throwback jersey.
“I’m loving wearing this jersey,” Robinson said at the "Baskets of Hope" event. “I’m hoping to stay here as a Cowboy. But we’ll see on March 13 when free agency starts. Hopefully my dream can come true and I can stay a Cowboy.”
And his wife, Kat Robinson, is on the same page, adding that they love Dallas and don’t want to leave.
“I know we’re not supposed to be looking at houses, but we are ready,” Kat said. “It’s an amazing city and even when he’s done with his NFL career, I can see us possibly retiring in Dallas.”
After playing in Atlanta and St. Louis during his first four seasons, Laurent had his best statistical year with the Cowboys, setting career-highs with 54 receptions for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns. His team-best 11 scores all came in the final 10 games when it was obvious he became Tony Romo’s favorite redzone target.
The 26-year-old was waiting for the right career opportunity after being released by the San Diego Chargers in September and he said it “presented itself here in Dallas.”
“I was just trying to take full advantage of it, and just had a great season,” he said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t finish the way we wanted to. But individually I did pretty well.”
And that will be reflected in the contract offer he receives from the Cowboys and probably several other clubs. Unlike last season, the free agency period should be enjoyable for the Robinsons.
“I’m so excited,” Kat said of the process. “Last year with the lockout and everything it was super stressful free agency. This year, we aren’t even thinking about it.”
She added: "Things happen for a reason. We ended up here for a reason.”
