The Oakland Raiders and veteran guard Robert Gallery have decided to part ways, according to an ESPN report.

Regarded as a bust at offensive tackle after being selected with the second overall pick in 2004, Gallery became a productive guard in Oakland. But his durability is a question mark after he missed 14 games the past two years combined.

"With the end of the league year coming today, and the few conversations I've had with the Raiders and Mr. (Al) Davis, we've come to a mutual agreement that it's time for me to move on with my career," said Gallery, 30, who started 91 games during his seven seasons in Oakland.

The Raiders also are expected to lose free-agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha, their first-round pick in 2003. As in the case of Asomugha, Gallery's contract voided after last season.

The Raiders drafted Gallery to be a cornerstone left tackle, but he didn't have the athleticism to be effective on the edge. He switched to left guard in 2007 and proved to be a good interior run blocker.

He's 30, and has been beat up the last two years.

I wouldn't refer to him as being young.

But if he wants to play for a reasonable contract, and can pass a physical, I'd be all for it.

I think they need to answer the RT position in FA. That is where the most bleeding is coming from.

You can get by this year w/ a rookie starting at center or guard and some combination of the Kosier, Gurode, Holland
