He's definitely better at CB than he was at safety, all those thinking he was gone or a waste of a roster spot take note:

Ball, who started at free safety last year, has impressed defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

“He looks like a natural out there,” Ryan said of Ball, who had an interception against Denver wiped out because of a penalty.

I actually think he is a good 4th corner....he did a good job in 08 &09 when he had to play there.......the perception of him by Johnny come lately fans is going to make it a constant topic to whine about though...

I think there will be resentment for him until he's playing in another city because he was thrown into a situation where he was sure to fail.

Yep I think that is true. He struggled and was out of place...I think he has a chance to be a good role player in this secondary though........I know most will laugh at that but I think he can play corner well enough to help..

Corner requires much less analysis, understanding, processing of information and reacting.

A cat will vigorously follow a red laser dot. Give a cat two or three dots to follow and it'll just sit there bewildered, pawing occasionally. That's Alan Ball.

If the laser dot is 6'4", 250+, Mike Jenkins won't even do that.

I am not too keen on much Ryan has to say. He says all of his players are awesome and can kick everyone else's butt at least publicly.

I will jump on this bandwagon as well.

Nicely done.

I don't really care for Alan Ball.

If it comes down to him or a guy with potentially more upside (McCann/Thomas, etc)... then I want to go in that direction.

Thomas got worked over the other night by scrubs.

I've always said, and others here have as well, that Alan Ball was a horrible safety.

I stated one day that we should keep him for depth at corner and was called out for it.

Yes, lately I have wanted him cut, but if Ryan sees that he can play corner. I'm going with that.

Newman's injury pretty much guaranteed Ball making the roster. We simply don't have enough experience at CB if Newman can't go.
