IRVING -- In the moments that followed Tashard Choice's fumble in the third quarter of the Dallas' 34-7 victory over St. Louis, the Cowboys' fourth-year running back remained rooted to the turf where he fell.
Choice appeared hurt and it turns out he was. Choice suffered a subuxation, or a partial dislocation, of his right shoulder in which the joint pops out before popping back in place. Choice, who incurred a similar injury in college and played through it, said he should be able to take the field Sunday at Philadelphia.
But it's not certain if the Cowboys would use Choice if he's healthy enough to play. Team owner Jerry Jones, who regularly seeks updates about injuries, said Sunday he didn't inquire about Choice's condition.
"I really don't know any details," Jones said. "It's notable I didn't ask."
Choice has offered diminishing returns this season and on Sunday was bypassed on the depth chart by rookie DeMarco Murray, who ran for a franchise-record 253 yards. Murray's output Sunday far exceeded what Choice has produced this year. In six games, Choice has rushed for 75 yards on 27 carries and has fumbled twice.
"He has not been as productive," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "But again you've got to look at the whole scheme of when he's gotten his opportunities and how the whole picture looks when he's getting the chance to carry the football. You know he was banged up a little bit. He had the calf thing during training camp so he hasn't really been himself as a runner. But he's a guy that keeps banging away and we'll keep trying to give him some chances as well and see if he can take advantage of them."
