Rex Ryan on Cowboys: 'Team is loaded'

By Calvin Watkins

Caught up with New York Jets coach Rex Ryan and asked his thoughts on his brother, Rob, becoming the Cowboys defensive coordinator.

Rex Ryan thinks this is the best talent his brother has coached as a defensive coordinator.

"Without question," Rex Ryan said. "I tell you what I always say this to him and I believe it, I think they'll be second in the league in defense this year and I believe it will happen. They're going to be good. That team is loaded, I mean golly. They got the best pass rusher [DeMarcus Ware] in football. They have a ton of talent on defense and by the way, there offense is as good as it gets. So this is gonna be a great combination, wow. It will be good."

Now the Cowboys play at the Jets this season, so of course Rex Ryan is going to be positive, but he does think the Jets will have the best defense in the league in 2011 followed by the Cowboys.

Rex Ryan joked that his father, former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan, is trying to cope with his son, Rob, coaching the Cowboys. We all know the nasty history between the Cowboys and the Eagles in the 80s when Buddy Ryan was the coach.

"But it is funny my dad is struggling with it a little bit," Rex Ryan said with a smile. "The Jets was great. The Jets was his team, he coached here eight years, it made sense. He looked to Rob like he was Benedict Arnold or something. By the time the team comes rolling around the Ryan family is going to be cheering for Dallas."
