Report: Bucs' Talib 'person of interest' in Texas shooting

3/28/2011 10:00:41 AM

According to the Dallas Observer, Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib is a "person of interest" in an incident in Garland, Texas, involving shots fired over an apparent family dispute.

After a March 21 altercation involving his sister, his mother, his sister's boyfriend, two guns and at least five shots fired.

According to a Garland Police Department initial report, Talib allegedly attempted to pistol-whip his sister Saran's boyfriend, Shannon Billings, and then, after a struggle, used his mother's pistol to fire several shots at Billings as he fled.

"The investigation is ongoing," Garland Police Department administration supervisor Captain Patrick McCulley said Friday. "But I can confirm that Mr. Talib is a person of interest in the case."

Pending an investigation, Talib could be arrested and charged with anything from discharging a firearm within a municipality (class A misdemeanor) to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (second-degree felony).

Appearantly Talib tried to pistol whip his sisters boyfriend, but he dropped the gun. So the boyfriend picked up the gun and ran off. Talib's mom pulled out her gun and fired three shots. Talib took the gun from his mom, and fired two shots of his own.

They be keepin' it real in the Talib family.

Their criminals are much cooler than our criminals. This offseason, they've got a couple attempted murders, and a handful of druggies, and we've got a guy who's bum was showing in the mall and a drunken UDFA. Lame.

As an aside, the savages seem to be running wilder this offseason than in others, no?

Mel mentioned that Talib and his mother might try and shoot his sisters boyfriend, in his scouting report?

Doesn't suprise me.

I've been a Mel believer ever since he stated that Sean Taylor had a weak femoral artery.

Report: Talib says mom was the one firing shots

The story Aqib Talib(notes) is telling is that only his mother pulled the trigger, firing shots at Shannon Billings, the boyfriend of her sister, as he fled a domestic disturbance on foot.

Talib is busy preparing a defense now after he has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony. Talib turned himself into police in Garland, Texas, on Wednesday and was released on $25,000 bond.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback has hired two law firms and a private investigator to help prepare his case. Police say Talib and his mother Okolo both fires shots at Billings on March 21 after he had argued with Talib’s sister Saran. Talib has also been accused of attempting to pistol whip Billings.

Per the report, Talib has retained the counsel of Pittsburgh attorney Jay Reisinger and Dallas criminal attorneys Frank Perez and H. David Lozano.

The attorneys didn’t comment on the matter but Talib reportedly told Clint Bowen, a coach when he was a player at Kansas, that only his mom squeezed off shots at Billings.

“I talked to Aqib two days ago," Bowen said, according to the Times. “I told him, ‘I just read something about you firing a gun.’ He said, ‘Man, I didn't do a thing. It'll all come out soon.’ He just kept saying that. … He said, ‘I didn't do that. That was my mom. It's all going to come out.’”
