The move from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 by the Washington Redskins this season has been a disaster.

The Redskins and their 4-3 scheme ranked in the top 10 in defense each of the previous three seasons under Joe Gibbs (eighth in 2007) and Jim Zorn (fourth in 2008, 10th in 2009). But there's been a titanic collapse this season. Washington ranks last in the NFL in defense.

The Redskins have allowed three 300-yard passing games, including 497 to Houston's Matt Schaub . They have allowed five 100-yard rushing games, including 130 to Tennessee's Chris Johnson, and six 100-yard receiving games, including 146 to Miles Austin in the season opener against the Cowboys.

The lowly Detroit Lions drilled the Redskins for 37 points in October and the Eagles slapped 59 points on them in November. Washington has run off its best front-seven player, $100 million tackle Albert Haynesworth, and the Redskins rank 26th in the NFL in sacks with 23. After having played against the top-12 defenses of the Eagles, Giants, Packers and Saints in the last six weeks, Cowboys might find the Redskins a welcome sight when they come calling Sunday.
