Ranking the Cowboys after the draft
By Calvin Watkins
ESPNDallas.com
The Cowboys have put their disappointing 2010 behind them and can look forward to 2011, if labor peace is reached. With the draft completed, it's time to update our player rankings. These rankings are based on past performance, potential, team and player expectations and whether the player will be on the team in 2011.
2011 Cowboys Post-Draft Player Rankings
Top 10
The Cowboys expect Jenkins to have a much better season, and he has the skills to do so. Bryant moves up the food chain because of his playmaking ability. Ratliff (left) needs a better 2011 than 2010; he missed too many plays last season and that's got to stop.
1. DeMarcus Ware, OLB
2. Tony Romo, QB
3. Jay Ratliff, NT
4. Jason Witten, TE
5. Miles Austin, WR
6. Dez Bryant, WR
7. Doug Free, OT
8. Felix Jones, RB
9. Bradie James, ILB
10. Mike Jenkins, CB
Nos. 11-20
While some would think Kosier had a better season, Gurode (left) reached the Pro Bowl and played through nagging injuries. Bowen, if signed to a deal, will be a steady force at defensive end. Smith enters the Top 20 because he'll either be the starting right tackle or left tackle.
11. Andre Gurode, C
12. Keith Brooking, ILB
13. Kyle Kosier, G
14. Tyron Smith, OT
15. Stephen Bowen, DE
16. Anthony Spencer, OLB
17. Orlando Scandrick CB
18. Leonard Davis, G
19. Terence Newman, CB
20. Gerald Sensabaugh, S
Nos. 21-30
Murray will push Choice (left) for playing time; at least that's the goal of the front office. Colombo, Barber, Spears and Williams might not return. It appears Brown has the edge as the field goal kicker because of David Buehler's inconsistency.
21. Igor Olshansky, DE
22. Marion Barber, RB
23. DeMarco Murray, RB
24. Mat McBriar, P
25. Marcus Spears, DE
26. Roy Williams, WR
27. Tashard Choice, RB
28. Marc Colombo, OT
29. L.P. Ladouceur, LS
30. Kris Brown, K
Nos. 31-40
Lee, if healthy, will get more playing time. Team officials keep raving about Brent, and Jerry Jones said it was as if he were an extra draft choice. Ogletree (left) will get a chance to show he can be the No. 3 receiver if Williams is sent packing.
31. Sean Lee, ILB
32. John Phillips, TE
33. Josh Brent, NT
34. David Buehler, K
35. Martellus Bennett, TE
36. Montrae Holland, G
37. Victor Butler, OLB
38. Kevin Ogletree, WR
39. Jon Kitna, QB
40. Barry Church, S
Nos. 41-50
Ball (left) gets moved to corner and will be pushed by McCann and rookie Joshua Thomas. Carter should get ranked higher, but his availability for the season opener is questionable because of his recovery time from a torn ACL.
41. Alan Ball, CB
42. Jason Hatcher, DE
43. Sam Hurd, WR
44. Chris Gronkowski, FB
45. Danny McCray, S
46. Bruce Carter, OLB
47. Bryan McCann, CB
48. Stephen McGee, QB
49. Sam Young, OT
50. Sean Lissemore, DL
Nos. 51-60
Owusu-Ansah (left) is coming off an injury, and Jerry Jones said special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis told him he was the second best returner behind Bryant. Harris will get a chance to play because the team likes how physical he is as a receiver. Arkin is a project and, along with Costa, is another player added for depth.
51. Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, S
52. Shaun Chapas, FB
53. Joshua Thomas, CB
54. Brandon Williams, OLB
55. Phil Costa, C/G
56. Leon Williams, ILB
57. Dwayne Harris WR
58. Clifton Geathers, DE
59. David Arkin, G
60. Andrew Sendejo, S
Nos. 61-70
Barron won't be here in 2011, but Nagy (left) will and the team likes how he finishes blocks and thinks he has a future as a possible swing tackle. Williams might get a long look in training camp, and he did well on the scout team last year. Parnell is another project who has to do something in the preseason.
61. Jesse Holley, WR
62. Lonyae Miller, RB
63. Jermey Parnell, OT
64. Bill Nagy, OL
65. Alex Barron, OL
66. Chris Greisen, QB
67. Martin Rucker, TE
68. Kenwin Cummings, ILB
69. Manuel Johnson, WR
70. Teddy Williams, WR
