I asked this in the chatter thread.

Rank em....

Jackson/Maclin

Nicks/Manningham (Or Nicks/Smith, if you feel Smith is their 2nd best WR)

Austin/Bryant

Wait, there's more....

Moss/Armstrong

1. Maclin/Jackson
They complement each other very well and with Vick at QB there should be no stopping them. Fix the blocking and this trio could be headed for multiple SBs
2. Nicks/Smith/Manningham
IMO it is only fair to mention all three members of this trio. Together they have made Eli look more like Peyton and less like Archie.
3. Miles/Dez
Dez will be the greatest WR in the NFL very soon, but he isn't there yet. Miles needs to keep performing like he did last season. I keep expecting him to fall back down to Earth but I am hoping he doesn't.
4. Moss/Armstrong
LOL!

Here's a follow up question....

What teams outside of the division can match or better the starting tandems in Philly, New York or Dallas?

Are there any?

I don't think so. Colston and Reggie Wayne are great, but the guys opposite them, and New Orleans has a few, while good, aren't elite. But pretty productive.

I'm not so sure that the top three tandems in the entire league aren't in the NFC East.

The three you mentioned are real good, but like you said, they all have that great lead WR and a drop off. Indy looks like maybe the best, but I wonder how much of that is Peyton Manning. Would Pierre Garcon or Austin Collie look as good with a different QB?

The Steelers have Wallace and Ward. Good, but I'd take any of the NFC East tandems.

Cincinnati might have won this 3 years ago. I doubt anybody on here would prefer Johnson/Owens now.

Green Bay is another real good one. Jennings/Driver. But Driver's on the downside. All the NFC East guys are either reaching or in their prime.

Minnesota with Rice and Harvin deserve a mention.

I'd rank it....

1) Jackson/Maclin
2) Austin/Bryant
3) Nicks/Manningham

In almost a dead heat.

The Jets have Holmes/Edwards but again Edwards isn't as elite as he was once thought to be. Denver has Lloyd and Gaffney making noise but I'm not certain that duo will last. White/Jenkins is a really good duo as well.

But I don't think any of those stand up to the top three in the East.

Do any of these contemporary combos compare with the all-time great combos?

In no particular order...
Rice/Taylor
Holt/Bruce
Carter/Moss
Harrison/Wayne
Swann/Stallworth
Moore/Morton/Perriman
Givens/Jeffires/Hill
Duper/Clayton

I don't think it's absurd to compare them with the bold text. The other combos besides Rice/Taylor were pretty much before my time.

In terms of talent and potential, sure. They belong in the mix.

But obviously they got a ways to go to accomplish what those groups did.

I forgot about the Jets. They might be top 5.
