First drive had to many penalties, some deserved, some terrible calls. The plays they called were good and moved the ball well though.

Nice to see T. Crawford with a sack. With all the hype about David Irving in TC I forgot about J. Crawford. He looked good.

2nd drive Romo moved the ball really well. Alfred Morris looked great running. Bailey nails the extra pt even after they get pushed back 5 more yards.

Wilcox is going to be a liability for us in coverage this year. The Hitchens penalty was terrible. 4 guys pushing and punching him and he gets a penalty. They need to apologize for the blown call. Great goal line stand after the big Wilcox error and bogus 15 yard penalty.

Great play call on Daks first play, 1st down on the 5 and they go play action, love it. Beautiful throw and catch on the Dez TD.

Russell's penalty for roughing the passer was weak but we see that a lot now. You can't run over the qb anymore you have to dive at the waist. Can't wait till we get to see Thornton and Crawford working inside together.

Brice Butler looked fantastic. Chaz Green with the mental mistake of not being on the line, played a good game besides that. OPI on Butler was weak, should have been a TD. Glad to see Dak finish off the drive with a TD where he threw a pick that got called back. After the Dak scramble for a TD they show Tony and he looked almost sad. Probably thinking, "great, if I struggle at all I'm gonna be stuck hearing about how Dak should play for me."

Wish they showed a replay of Dak jumping out of bounds making that throw. LOL

Takeaways

Dak looked great again. Had a int called back and another that hit the chest of a db but still played great. If Romo goes down for 4-5 games I have faith that we can weather the storm.

Defence looked better then I expected. Pleased with the cb play.

Offence is elite. If Romo stays healthy they could challenge the pts record.

I think I said this in another thread but I'll say it here too. Dak really reminds me of a young Donovan McNabb. I'm officially on board with him being the primary backup this year. Good thing Cleveland got greedy and tried to take advantage of the Cowboys situation when Moore first went down.

Re: your comment on Romo looking sad and worried about struggling.... How long before fans start calling for Dak to start once Romo has a bad game or two?

I think it'll happen. I don't think Romo is elite anymore. Could be interesting to watch. Especially if we have a losing record mid season.

Tony was seen numerous times with Dak laughing, smiling and having a grand ol time. I don't think he feels threated or "sad" at all. He seems to really like the kid.

Romo seemed to especially chipper with the scramble to the right and then the jump pass out of bounds.

Tony is cocky enough that I doubt he'll feel pressure much, but the fans screaming for it? No doubt.

Romo would have to play pretty bad for that to happen though. Unless he hurts himself (which is possible as we know and have seen) I really don't see him playing bad.

Romo's post-game comments about Prescott (on Dallascowboys.com) were interesting.

Clearly Romo isn't threatened. He's supportive. During his interview, Romo said something to the effect that it would be a great thing for the franchise if the Cowboys had a quality QB to take over for him when he (Romo) retired. A seamless transition.

It surprised me to hear Romo speak as if his retirement isn't so far away. It was much different from the "I've got another 4 or 5 years in me" talk that we have heard before.

Maybe Romo's retirement is closer than we think.

Romo always has a game or two where he looks bad. Maybe with their run game he won't but he's always good for at very least 1 bad game.

Like maybe this is his last year.

I seriously doubt this unshod last year. I think next year will be his last year. Mostly because of his contract. From my understanding he has a huge cap hit this year and next year (like $20+ mil each year) but after that his cap hit drops to less than $10 mil. If he retires at that point it won't kill the Cowboys cap. And Dak will still have 2 years left on his rookie deal.

The problem with the Dak 4th round pick is IF he is the next one, we won't get a extra year pick up like all the 1st rounders have built into their contracts. If he takes over, he will get paid sooner than expected.

At the earliest that will happen in his 3rd year.

That's 100% fine. I'd much prefer that "problem" as opposed to never finding the next guy
