Green Bay Packers
director of football operations Reggie McKenzie is interviewing for theOakland Raiders general manager position Wednesday, an NFL source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Owner Al Davis, who died in October, had effectively served as the team's general manager until his death.
Former Packers general manager Ron Wolf strongly endorsed McKenzie for the Raiders' position in a November interview.
"Reggie's a tremendous evaluator," Wolf told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He can tell you who can play and who can't play. That's what it's all about. Some can write reports but can't tell you who can play. Whatever that is, he has that. He has a feel."
McKenzie played linebacker for the Raiders from 1985-88.
On Monday, Raiders coach Hue Jackson said he wanted to be involved in the team's search for a general manager.
"... I would hope that the organization understands that I have a pretty good idea of where we need to go. Because if not, then I shouldn't be where I'm sitting," Jackson said, according to the Contra Costa Times.
Jackson made the calls on personnel after Davis' death and ochestrated the blockbuster trade with the Cincinnati Bengals for quarterback Carson Palmer.
Oakland gave up a 2012 first-round pick to get Palmer, leaving them with picks in just the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2012 draft until compensatory picks are doled out. The Raiders also are without a 2013 second-rounder because of the deal.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

That would be a great hire for them. We're getting lapped.

You know if Al Davis were still alive this wouldn't be going on.

Yup, I'm convinced the Raiders will win another Super Bowl before we do.

Hue Jackson needs to STFU and sit back. He pretty much did the Palmer deal on his own and that did not work.

The Raiders lost a lot of picks because of that trade. McKenzie can get it done for the Raiders, but it'll be a longer process without them.

The Oakland Raiders will hire Green Bay Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie as their next general manager.

The Raiders will hold a news conference on Tuesday to discuss the hiring.

The two sides have been engaged in talks over the past week and are still ironing the details of McKenzie's role and his powers within the organization.
McKenzie has had the support of former Raiders executives Ron Wolf, Ken Herock and John Madden, who were assisting the team in its search for a new general manager.
"Reggie's a tremendous evaluator," Wolf told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday. "He can tell you who can play and who can't play. That's what it's all about. Some can write reports but can't tell you who can play. Whatever that is, he has that. He has a feel."
McKenzie, who played linebacker for the Raiders from 1985-88, officially interviewed with the team Wednesday, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
