It's going to be tough to win over the "trade Tony Romo and draft Cam Newton" crowd with this point, but it should be noted that despite all their failings in 2010, the Cowboys are not like the rest of the teams picking in the top 10 of April's draft.

They have a franchise quarterback in Romo, and they know it. For the rest of the teams picking so high, it was generally the lack of such a guy that got them into the mess in the first place.

Here's a quick rundown:

Carolina: Opening day starter Matt Moore lasted two weeks before being replaced by rookie Jimmy Clausen, who wasn't ready either.

Denver: 2010 first-round pick Tim Tebow showed promise at the end of the year, but only registered three starts.

Buffalo: Ryan Fitzpatrick?

Cincinnati: Carson Palmer now says he wants out.

Arizona: John Skelton beat the Cowboys, but that wasn't much of an accomplishment this year.

San Francisco: New coach Jim Harbaugh may be the best quarterback in town.

Tennessee: The cases of Jerry Sloan vs. Deron Williams and Jeff Fisher vs. Vince Young are eerily similar, no? The difference is Williams is a good passer.

Washington: Donovan McNabb seems unlikely to be brought back.

Not only could Romo start for any of these teams, but probably Jon Kitna as well, and Stephen McGee would probably get serious consideration. This is a quarterback league, and the Cowboys are in pretty good shape, which suggests they won't stay among the draft's cellar dwellers.

And they'll be hoping there's a draft night run on QBs in picks 1-8.
